Register of peers

The register of peers is an integral part of the Australia Council's decision making processes. It opens the assessment process to a wider field of peers and ensures a more flexible system for assessment by peers. It also facilitates the choice of assessors who are artform experts for the assessment of specific applications.

Peers may be called on as participating advisers at assessment or policy meetings or as external assessors to provide reports on specific applications, performances, scripts, etc.

While board members are responsible for decision-making, participating advisers augment the decision-making process through the provision of expert advice on the assessment of grant applications or the development of artform or other policy.

Peers from the register may also be appointed by the Council to serve on advisory or assessment committees, such as Arts in a Multicultural Australia and Community Partnerships Committees. The Council may delegate decision-making responsibility to these committees, that either meet several times over a fixed period or for a one-off purpose.

Peers from the register may also serve on panels such as the inter-arts assessment panel. Panels do not make decisions and their role is to provide funding recommendations to another decision-making authority within the Council.

Peers are selected on the basis of best match with the expertise and experience for the task at hand. Selection is made using the information provided on the registration form.
