How to apply

The Australia Council supports workplace diversity and equal opportunity employment. We conduct our recruitment and selection processes in a fair, efficient and consistent manner to ensure the most capable person is selected for a position.

The Australia Council is committed to recruiting a workforce which represents the diversity of our stakeholders and community, embodies the Australia Council behaviours, and supports our objectives, culture and achievement of current and future goals.

This guide contains important information on how to apply for a role at the Australia Council.

Submitting an application

Your application must include:

  • a brief covering letter or email
  • a competency statement addressing the selection criteria as set out in the position profile
  • your resume
  • a completed Australia Council for the Arts employment application form.

Please ensure that your competency statement addresses each of the selection criteria. Write a paragraph or two detailing relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Cite most recent and specific examples as evidence of your work performance against each competency. Be clear and concise – we are looking for quality not quantity.

Interview process

Please note that only candidates who will be short-listed for an interview will be contacted and unsuccessful applicant letters will not be issued.

The interview will take place with either a recruiting manager or a selection panel. Questions you may be asked will relate to the position profile and competency requirements as well as your resume and competency statement. Interviews are conducted in an informal conversational style, offering candidates the opportunity to engage in a two-way conversation with the interviewer and ask any questions they may have about the position or organisation.

At the end of the interview, next steps in the recruitment process will be discussed. This could include arranging another interview or reference checks. After the final interview, you will be notified as soon as possible whether or not you have been successful in gaining the role.

We extend our thanks to all applicants interested in applying for a role with the Australia Council.
