Market Development

Australia Council’s Market Development section supports artists and arts organisations to distribute their work, and connect to audiences here and abroad.

Australian Performing Arts Market Indigenous Showcase Launch 2012

We recognise market development is rarely achieved in the short term – and limited budget requires clear choices in selecting international markets for more focused long term market development initiatives. The criteria to determine international markets for specific strategies and initiatives include requirements for:

  • a clear ‘fit’ between the Australian work and the global market segment

  • a strong arts delivery and/or distribution infrastructure within the international country

  • economic and political stability.

  • explore opportunities in our region- Asia

While our focus remains responsive to arts organisations business plans we are also taking a proactive approach to market development, particularly as it relates to work in our region – Asia. Our focus on Asia aims to develop new markets and opportunities for Australian arts.

Market development programs are targeted to:

  • support artists and arts organisation in their business planning

  • take the work of artists to markets

  • seed collaborations and relationships to drive national and international activity.
