Education and the arts
The Australia Council education and the arts strategy ensures the arts are seen as an integral part of our life long learning and that it becomes a core element of the school curriculum.
The education and the arts strategy aims to:
- Increase access to arts skills development through the education system to assist the development of our next generation of professional artists and artsworkers; and
- Ensure education is central to shaping Australian attitudes to and perceptions of the arts.
Current initiatives
A core budget of $140,000 is allocated for education and the arts and youth arts in 2008-09, including:
- A range of arts and education based research projects;
- Completion of National Review of Visual Education.
Emerging issues
- The Australian Government is considering its response to the National Review of Visual Education and implementation of the Review of Music Education.
- Deliver the Australian Government's allocated additional funding to artist in residence programs for schools and universities, worth $5.2 million over four years.
- The working group for the implementation of the Joint CMC – MCEETYA statement on arts and education will identify new initiatives and priorities.
- The Australia Council is currently reviewing its education and the arts strategy.
