Multicultural Australia

The Cultural Engagement Framework celebrates our diversity and creates opportunities for all Australians to participate in our cultural life. It includes:

Multicultural

The Australia Council supports initiatives that ensure Australia’s dynamic cultural life and practices are embraced, celebrated and created by the diversity of the cultures represented in Australia today.

We recognise that opportunities to participate in and enjoy the arts for people of culturally diverse backgrounds may also be affected by issues relating to disability, youth, Aboriginality and living in regional or remote communiti.

We aim to

  • support the development of creative content that reflects a multicultural Australia
  • continue to consult widely on developing new policies, initiatives and appropriate programs of assistance
  • increase culturally inclusive leadership
  • encourage creative interfaces with Indigenous and non-English speaking background artists by facilitating cultural exchanges and audience development.

We provide

  • triennial support to kultour, the national member-based company that activates and supports touring of high quality arts practices representing Australia’s contemporary multicultural society
  • funding to multicultural arts organizations and artists through competitive grant rounds
  • annual support for Asialink’s residency program
  • opportunities for national and international discourse and peer discussion.
