Dr Imre Salusinszky

Dr Imre Salusinszky was appointed chair of the literature board and a member of the Council for three years from 24 June 2006.

Imre is the author of many reviews, articles and books and was editor of the Oxford Book of Australian Essays, published in 1997. He has held positions as associate professor in English and head of department at the University of Newcastle, and was a lecturer at Yale University in the USA and at the University of Melbourne. Prior to his appointment with the Australia Council, Imre served as a member of the editorial committees for Qudrant and HEAT.

Imre has been a journalist with The Australian newspaper since 2003, and is currently the newspaper's NSW political reporter and a regular columnist.
