Dancenorth presents Mass
22 June 2011
Development is well underway for Dancenorth’s second production for the year MASS, premiering in Townsville on June 30.
Dancenorth, under the Artistic Directorship of Raewyn Hill, is focusing on creating dance theatre that is profound, confronting, highly physical and takes its themes from social issues.
In Raewyn’s second full length work for Dancenorth, the concept of intimate communities assembling out of people sharing a profound experience is transported into the performance space. MASS looks at situations where community manifests and dissipates, where the peculiar behaviour of people in close relationships creates further bonding and how people come to rely on each other, joined by an invisible force, creating a spontaneous connection that may not otherwise have existed.
MASS is an international collaboration that includes a new and commissioned score by acclaimed Spanish composer Micka Luna; vocals by the UK’s Jocelyn West (of David Lynch fame) AND digital imagery from Mariona Omedes (2011 winner of the Spanish National Award for Culture).
MASS will premiere in Townsville at Dancenorth, corner of Walker & Stanley Streets, on June 30 with the season continuing July 1-3 & 7-9. Tickets start at $15 and are available from www.dancenorth.com.au
Dancenorth is supported as a key organisation of the Dance Board.
