Insite Arts appointed to deliver MAPS for Artists in South Australia

Following a rigorous and competitive process, Insite Arts has been appointed to deliver the Managing and Producing Services (MAPS for Artists) in South Australia, a joint initiative of the Theatre and Dance Boards of the Australia Council for the Arts and Arts SA.

MAPS for Artists will create a supportive structure that will produce and manage selected theatre and dance groups and artists, enabling them to create, present and tour their work more effectively within the state, as well as nationally and internationally.

Insite Arts was chosen for its strong connections to South Australia and depth of experience in the performing arts industry. The directors have 20 years of experience in creating contemporary performance works, managing and directing arts festivals, producing independent artists and presenting large-scale installations and touring.

Adelaide-based Sasha Zahra, a theatre maker and producer, will work with Insite Arts Directors Jason Cross and Lee Cumberlidge, to deliver the MAPS SA program.

Insite Arts will provide management and producing services to six South Australian theatre and dance groups and artists. For details regarding the expression of interest process for the selection of the groups and artists for MAPS South Australia, please see http://tiny.cc/maps-sa

Insite Arts Director, Jason Cross, said, “We see the role of independent producers as an important part of the creative and strategic development of the Australian performing arts industry. We’re very excited at the opportunity to welcome Sasha Zahra to the Insite team and to be working closely with South Australian artists and companies to further develop their artistic practice and future opportunities. Adding Sasha to the team will provide a local point of contact for MAPS artists and a depth of knowledge about the needs of South Australian artists.”

Sasha Zahra has a string of creative credits in South Australia including directing works for Vitalstatistix Theatre Company, Come Out Festival, and D Faces Of Youth Arts (Whyalla). She was also the Artistic Director of Kurruru Youth Performing Arts, and is currently Creative Producer for Adelaide Fringe.

Jason Cross and Lee Cumberlidge have extensive experience working in Australia and internationally and both have significant links to South Australia. Jason was Artistic Director of the 2009 Australian Festival for Young People – Come Out, and artistic director of the 16th International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People, and Lee was a Producer with Arts Projects Australia from 1999–2008. At Insite Arts they work with artists as independent producers to provide key artistic support and management in order to initiate ideas, develop and create art and take it to audiences.

“The dynamism and vibrancy of the small-to-medium performing arts sector are essential to the cultural life of Australia,” said Alexandra Reid, Executive Director, Arts SA.
