Here, Now DIY Depot

26 February 2010

Holiday at APAM - DIY DepotShirking the artifice, costumes and makeup of traditional performance this collection of artists seek a genuine, thoughtful and provocative relationship to their audiences.

Here, Now DIY Depot is taking place at the the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) in Adelaide, 22 - 26 February 2010. Panther, a performance collaboration between Madeleine Hodge and Sarah Rodigari, have curated this interactive performance event to feature artists from around Australia who make work outside traditional theatre contexts.

Here, Now DIY Depot artists include: pvi collective, Jason Mailing, Brown Council, Michelle Mantsio, Mimic Mass, Agents of Proximity, Deadpan, Panther, Jen Jamieson, Paul Gazzola, Deborah Kelly, Post, Lara Thoms, Alice Hui-Sheng Chang, Parachutes for Ladies, Julie Vulcan, You Are Here, Bettybooke, Rhubarb Ruhbarb, and Jason Sweeney.

At once charming, coercing and enticing they create a new kind of performance experience, somewhere between an event and a live act, somewhere between a conversation and survey, somewhere between the Here and the Now.

In the booth Panther involves each APAM visitor as a participant in a performance conversation and a card game about what it means to be here and now. This leads to the creation of a large and ever expanding map of live and interdisciplinary artists that have connections across Australia and around the world.  In this way Panther seeks to represent the broader community of artists and works that both support and stimulate these artists' practice.

APAM draws together 500 delegates from around the world at the Adelaide Festival Centre. Here, Now DIY Depot is an Australia Council Market Development initiative to promote young and emerging artists at APAM 2010.

Panther invites you to find out more about the project and converse with the artists on the Here, Now DIY Depot blog.
