Wish We Were Here - Dan Koop's Hopscotch tour

28 September 2011

A personal postcard delivery service by Dan Koop c/o DJK International

Artist Dan Koop will bring your special postcard message to a chosen recipient within 5 kilometers of the DJK International service booth. He performs the delivery according to your instructions, and uses social media to trace the process involving everyday people and geographies.

As Koop suggests of this live art work, “at the turn of the twentieth century millions of postcards were sent worldwide as a quick way to say ‘thinking of you, wish you were here’. Now, we send millions more SMS and emails every day but we can still feel distant from those nearby.” He invites you to (re)connect with people via Wish We Were.

Koop was awarded a grant through the Hopscotch live art touring initiative. He is taking this work to the Junction Arts Festival 24-28 August (Launceston, TAS) and to the Under The Radar program of the Brisbane Festival 18-23 September 2011. Previous presentations of Wish We Were Here include the  exist-ence live art festival (Brisbane, November 2010) and the Tiny Stadiums festival (Sydney, May 2011).

At each venue Koop sets up a DJK International booth. There you can write a Wish We Were Here postcard, and discuss your delivery requirements, which might entail a ‘singing telegram’ style message or another special performance. As he sets out for each hand-delivery, you can interact with his live twitter updates via the hashtag #wishwewerehere, and follow each delivery – successful or otherwise – via images and video on the blog.
