Nashville Songwriter Residency announcements
30 May 2012
Chris Altmann and Travis Caudle are the recipients of the Nashville Songwriter Residency which will allow them to undertake a 3-month residency in Nashville under the guidance of Australian producer and Nashville resident Mark Moffatt.
Chris Altmann is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who records and performs both solo and with his group The Vandas. His sound is influenced by the border town grooves of Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker, combined with the up tempo country rock beats of Chuck Berry and Levon Helm. He released his debut album ‘Que Paso’ in 2010. As part of the 3-month Nashville residency Chris will undertake co-writing sessions, record new material, showcase at local venues and develop new industry networks.
Travis Caudle is a singer/songwriter and member of Perth band The Woodenelves. He has performed several hundred shows in the past two years, including Canadian Music Week and support slots for Jimmy Barnes, Kasey Chambers, Hinder, the Black Crowes and Tim Rogers. In 2009, Travis released his debut solo electric album ‘Signals’. As part of the 3-month residency Travis will write a body of new material, record a new solo ep, showcase at local venues and develop new industry networks with producers, record labels, booking agents and musicians.
The residency is the result of a partnership between the Australia Council’s Music Board and Nashville based songwriter and producer Mark Moffatt. The residency will allow a songwriter the chance to immerse themselves in the Nashville music scene and to further develop their own artistic skills and industry networks and relationships. Mark Moffatt is a songwriter, producer, and resident of Nashville since 1996. As Director of A&R at Ten Ten until 2001 he worked extensively in the development of Keith Urban. His production credits include Keith Urban, the Saints, Yothu Yindi, the Divinyls, Neil and Tim Finn, Slim Dusty, Tony Joe White, and many others. Mark will work with the successful songwriter to establish a base of knowledge, relationships and business contacts within the Nashville music scene.
