Art makes a flash at Australia Council

Australia Council’s ground floor is transformed in a new exhibition Flashers, a project created by Seizure Magazine. Over a two day period, four artists hand painted illustrations onto the walls of the Australia Council’s ground floor window gallery.

Flashers will be on display, and open to the public until 30 January 2016. Featuring the work from a selection Australian writers and illustrators, these artists have all contributed to Seizure Magazine’s ‘Flashers’ project.

The Flashers project accepts submissions of prose that are between 50 and 500 words – works that could be written in an hour and read in a minute. Successful pieces are published on Seizure online and paired with an illustration that compliments the work.

Seizure describes the project as “so much more than a quick-fix for the time-hungry wordaholic. ‘Flash fiction’ attracts writers and readers for its peculiar challenges – and authors have to make every word count.”

The work of writers David Henley, Fiona Wright, Sam Karpiniec and Daniel Young will be on display in the exhibition alongside site-specific hand painted Illustrations from artists Yiscah Symonds, Luke Marcatili, Max Prentis and Sam Paine. Each of the artist’s submitted short form prose for the Flasher project throughout 2015, which was supported by the Australia Council for the Arts.

Flashers runs until 31 January and is open to the public weekdays from 9am to 5pm, at 372 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills, NSW.
