Frankie Airey discusses arts fundraising

Philanthropy expert Frankie Airey will throw down the gauntlet to arts organisations in free lectures to be delivered around Australia.

“You won't get good fundraisers till you get good fundraising organisations, and it's the board's job to set the tone. They shouldn't complain about lack of high calibre fundraising staff - fundraising is the leadership's role,” Ms Airey says. “Once they have taken on that responsibility then the fundraising looks after itself."

Ms Airey is one of Australia’s leading philanthropy experts, with 20 years’ experience consulting and working for leading organisations in Australia and overseas. They include the Victorian Arts Centre and Sydney Opera House, and The Royal Shakespeare Company and Oxford University in the UK.

She is the founder of Philanthropy Squared, a consulting firm that brings strategic thinking in philanthropy to the not-for-profit sector. She is also a board member of the Malthouse Theatre.

The lectures are an initiative of the Australia Business Arts Foundation with funding from the Margaret Lawrence Bequest.

“My approach is to work with the leadership of organisations – boards and executive – to create an organisational environment where philanthropy can flourish,” Ms Airey said.

“This is a great opportunity for arts board members, CEOs, general managers and senior executives of arts organisations to get the benefit of state-of-the-art thinking in philanthropy,” said AbaF’s National Manager of Cultural Development, Sue Roff.
