"A good friend told me to think of questions when you're writing – how are you going to do it, what, why, and where are you going to do it."- Kirsten Coelho
Kirsten has applied for four Australia Council grants between 2001 and 2008. She received a London Studio Residency grant in 2005. The first grant she applied for was rejected, the next three were approved.
Kirsten works in porcelain. More recently her work has been influenced by nineteenth and early twentieth century enamel wares and the abstracted surface possibilities these objects can possess when they begin to age.
As part of her 2008 new work grant, she proposed to explore historic mining sites and museums –collecting objects in regional Victoria. A new body of work will come from this research and be exhibited in 2009.
Kirsten works from a studio in Ethelton, South Australia. She has been a studio tenant at the JamFactory Centre for Contemporary Craft and Design, and completed a Master of Visual Art and currently lectures in Ceramics at the University of South Australia.
