Theatre

The Australia Council supports Australian theatre through the Theatre, Major Performing Arts, Literature, Music and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts boards and the Market Development section. In 2010 –11 we invested over $24 million in Australian theatre, including $10.4 million through the Theatre Board. This support takes the form of grants to individual artists and groups, operational support to arts organisations, market and audience development initiatives and strategic initiatives to build capacity across the sector.

Further information about the Theatre Board’s priorities can be found in its sector plan, published in the Artforms section of our website.
