Key organisations - multi-year grants are for outstanding dance organisations that have sustained national or international influence, are leading innovators that extend dance practice or are acknowledged centres of excellence.

About this category

Three year key organisations – multi-year grants are for outstanding dance organisations that have sustained national or international influence, are leading innovators that extend dance practice or are acknowledged centres of excellence. Only dance organisations already receiving key organisations – triennial funding may apply for a grant in 2008.

Assessment criteria

Applications will be assessed according to the following selection criteria: 

  • The extent to which the organisation demonstrates that they are or can be one of the following:     
    • An organisation with a sustained national and/or international presence or influence     
    • A leading innovator that consistently extends dance practice     
    • An acknowledged centre of excellence in its particular form or practice   
  • The quality and innovation of the program and the calibre of the people involved
  • Benefit and/or audience development
  • Contribution to the cultural diversity of Australian dance
  • Good planning, governance and management, including effective use of resources.

Eligibility

The only applicants who may apply in 2008 for 2009-11 funding will be:

  • Those already in receipt of a key organisations - multi-year grant.

From 2011, for 2012-14 funding, the only organisations eligible would be those:

  • Currently in receipt of a key organisations grant, or
  • Currently in receipt of a third consecutive annual key organisations-emerging grant.

It is expected that the applying organisation:

  • Is a not-for-profit incorporated association or a company limited by guarantee
  • Has a governance structure that complies with Principles 1 & 2 of the Australian Stock Exchange’s Principles of Good Corporate Governance and Best Practice Recommendations 
  • Has an independent annual financial audit process that complies with relevant Australian Accounting Standards
  • Has a minimum turnover of $250,000 per annum in the three years prior to application (can be average per-annum turnover over the three-year period)
  • Has a minimum grant application of $50,000 per annum to the dance board
  • Has a minimum of 30 per cent of income per annum from sources other than the Australia Council
  • Has 20 per cent of turnover in cash reserves OR has clear, achievable and realistic strategies in its business plan to build this level of reserve
