Key organisations - multi-year grants are designed to develop a viable strategic infrastructure to support the work and professional development of Australian writers and the general advancement of Australian literature.

Please note that key organisations - multi-year grant applications will be accepted this year only from organisations already in receipt of key organisations - multi-year funding from the literature board.

About this category
Key organisations - multi-year grants are designed to develop a viable strategic infrastructure to support the work and professional development of Australian writers and the general advancement of Australian literature.
Under this category, the literature board provides operational funding to a limited number of outstanding national and state/territory-focused organisations.
Who is eligible to apply?
This category is open only to organisations currently in receipt of key organisations - multi-year grants from the literature board.
Currently, the only organisations eligible to apply for key organisations - multi-year grants are:
- State writers’ centres which have received funding from the literature board for at least three of the past five years and for which the relevant state or territory government has agreed to at least match the literature board’s level of grant for the above purposes
- Leading national professional writers’ organisations which have received funding from the literature board for at least three of the past five years for programs which support the professional development of Australian writers and the development of the literature sector overall.
What are the selection criteria?
Applications must demonstrate:
- A high quality of proposed activities for a three-year period
- Effective management of resources, with an achievable three-year plan that includes strategies for building resources and diversifying income
- Evidence of a high level of achievement and leadership in the development of programs to support and promote Australian writers and Australian literature.

Important information
Organisations in receipt of key organisations - multi-year grants may make only one other application each year to the Australia Council, which may not be to the key organisations - multi-year grants category. It is strongly recommended that you discuss your application with staff before applying.
