About this category
Presentation and promotion grants support projects that promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and their work regionally, nationally and internationally through publications, recordings, performances, exhibitions and international export.
All applicants are encouraged to seek further funding support for the project from other sources. Please note the following about requirements for two types of projects relevant to this category:
- Grants for recording projects - for CD/DVD recording projects involving writing, recording, production, manufacture, distribution and promotion you can apply for up to 75 per cent of the cost of any aspects of the process, up to a maximum of $10,000.
- Grants for overseas projects - the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts board expects overseas organisations that invite Indigenous artists to travel overseas to contribute materially to such projects.
Who is eligible to apply?
This category is open to:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, groups and arts and community organisations
- non-Indigenous arts organisations to employ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and arts workers.
To be eligible, you must meet the general eligibility requirements and provide the necessary support material, as well as what is listed below.
To demonstrate your eligibility, the following information must be sent with your application by the closing date or your application will be ineligible.
Individuals must provide:
- a letter/certificate confirming their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity provided by an organisation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 or other relevant legislation. This must be on letterhead and signed or stamped with a common seal; or
- a letter/certificate confirming their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity provided by an Indigenous land council. This must be on letterhead and signed or stamped with a common seal.
Groups must provide:
- a letter from an organisation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 or other relevant legislation that recognises the group as being representative of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts or artists. This must be on letterhead and signed or stamped with the organisation’s common seal.
- a letter/certificate confirming the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identity of key artists and/or arts workers. This must be provided by an organisation registered under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 or other relevant legislation. This must be on letterhead and signed or stamped with the organisation’s common seal.
What are the selection criteria?
Applications must demonstrate:
- artistic and cultural value and ideas of project
- experience of the artists and/or arts workers involved, with skills appropriate to the project
- clear evidence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander involvement and contribution throughout the project
- sound financial and project management, including an effective marketing and distribution plan identifying target audiences and products
- evidence of support for the project from relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and individuals
- the benefits to the artform and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander arts in general.
What should you submit?
You must submit evidence of your eligibility and the required support material in addition to the application form.
Important information
For touring projects, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts board will give priority to:
- tours that include workshops with communities, as well as tours that reach regional communities
- international projects that clearly demonstrate:
a) an understanding of the Indigenous protocols, networks and visa requirements of countries on the itinerary and the cultural responsibility of Indigenous touring organisations as ambassadors of Indigenous culture
b) written evidence of any invitations from the overseas hosting organisation and/or venue.
Overseas applicants for international projects must provide written evidence of co-funding from the host country or organisation.
