About this category
Presentation and promotion grants support activities such as gigs, concerts, promotional or performance tours within Australia, festivals, showcases and publications that document or discuss aspects of music in Australia.
Projects involving the creation of websites and other online marketing initiatives are particularly encouraged under this category.
Applicants may apply for costs associated with digital delivery, including encoding and site membership costs. For applications involving the creation of a website, the board will consider the degree to which the site delivers returns directly to the artist.
The sub-category presentation and promotion (recording) has been discontinued in 2008. CD recording projects are not eligible for funding under presentation and promotion.
Who is eligible to apply?
This category is open to individuals, performing groups/ensembles/bands and organisations.
To be eligible, you must meet the general eligibility requirements.
Individuals, groups and bands may be established or emerging, and projects may involve young people.
How often can you apply?
Applicants can only apply to the presentation and promotion category once in 2008.
The following buffer periods also apply:
- If you apply for a presentation and promotion grant at either closing date in the 2008 calendar year and are successful, you will not be eligible to reapply for this category in the 2009 calendar year. You will be eligible to reapply at either of the 2010 closing dates.
- If you applied for a presentation and promotion grant at either closing date in the 2007 calendar year and were successful, you will not be eligible to reapply for this category in the 2008 calendar year. You will be eligible to reapply at either of the 2009 closing dates.
Legally constituted organisations are exempt from these buffers.
What are the selection criteria?
Applications will be selected that best demonstrate:
- Artistic merit, the quality of artists and their suitability to the project
- The potential to contribute to cultural, regional or musical diversity in Australia
- Good planning and effective use of resources, and clear plans for audience development.
Applications where unpaid young people are working with professional artists must also demonstrate:
- The extent to which young people will collaborate with professionals and have input in the project.
What should you submit?
You must submit the required support material in addition to the application form.
Application forms are not yet available, but will be posted on this website at least six weeks before the closing date.
Important information
Costs
You may apply to the music board for professional fees, associated expenses such as on-costs and travel, and a reasonable level of promotional and administrative costs, including those for activities that are not fully professional. If you wish to claim administrative costs, you should provide a detailed breakdown of these costs in your project budget.
Creation of new work
Applications for the creation of new work should be submitted under the new work category.
International activities
The music board will consider applications for international marketing activities in this category. International touring and international showcasing are not supported in this category. Applicants must apply to the international pathways initiative for support for international touring.
Projects with multiple stages
If a project has different stages, for example, a public presentation followed by a tour, you should present separate budgets for each stage of your project. The music board will assess the entire project but in the end may only support specific stages of it.
