About the grant
The Don Banks Music Award is to publicly honour a senior individual of distinction who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to music in Australia. The award was established in honour of Don Banks, Australian composer, performer and the first Chair of the Music Board. It is granted only once in an individual's lifetime.

Eligibility
Nominations will be accepted from individuals and arts organisations. The nominee must be an individual of distinction who has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to music in Australia. Artists may not nominate themselves.
The following requirements are specific to this award:
- the award is for artists 50 years and over
Applicants are encouraged to read the latest Music Sector Plan before preparing and submitting their application. The sector plan describes the Australia Council’s involvement with the sector, identifies current issues and outlines short and medium term goals and priorities.
Selection process
The Music Board, with advice from peer advisers will assess applications.

How to apply
Online applications are not available for Don Banks Music Award. Please download the Word application form attached below and submit by the closing date either via post (address below) or email to the contact listed in the 'About' tab.
Supporting materials
Nominations should comprise:- a letter from the nominator explaining the reason for the nomination (related to the purpose of the award)
- the nominated individual’s curriculum vitae
- the nominated individual’s contact details (street and postal address, work and home telephone numbers)
- letters of support and testimonials from experts/artists/educators in the specified areas of artform practice, relevant communities or organisations (no more than 5 pages in total).
Nominations may also include a selection of relevant supporting material:
- up to a total of 10 minutes of audio material, to be uploaded with your application, or submitted in hard copy as a single audio CD; or
- up to a total of 10 minutes of audio visual material. Video files 10mb or smaller should be uploaded with your application. For larger video files please submit three identical DVDs or data discs in hard copy; or
- up to three URLs linking to audio or visual material, to be uploaded with your application.
If more than 10 minutes of material is submitted, staff will select which 10 minutes goes forward to the Board.
You are encouraged to include support material which demonstrates the quality and range of the nominated individual's work.
You must also include details of the support material included with your application. This should include title, duration, year, composer/songwriter and performer details, and a brief explanation of the material’s relevance to the application. You can include this information in the comments space provided or attach a separate document (Support material details), which you can download below.

Please ensure the support material is clearly labelled, including the applicant’s name, application ID and the category. All hard copy support material must be postmarked no later than the closing date.
