About the initiative

The International Performing Arts Market Travel Fund supports Australian independent producers, managers and/or company and artist representatives to attend key international performing arts markets and events, to a maximum of A$4,000 per event.

In addition, Market Development may invite one or two key programmers from the sector to join delegations to increase visibility, audience knowledge and appreciation of Australian contemporary performing arts.

Focus markets

Current focus markets are the International Performing Arts for Youth (IPAY) Showcase, Philadelphia, PA, USA (4-7 January 2013), the Performing Arts Market in Seoul, South Korea (8-12 October 2012) and CINARS in Montreal, Canada (12-18 November 2012). Market Development will coordinate an Australian presence at these events in 2012 to increase international touring opportunities for Australian contemporary performing arts.

IETM meetings

We will  support an Australian presence at the International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts’ (IETM) Spring and Autumn plenary meetings. In 2012, the IETM Spring Plenary meeting will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark (28-31 March 2012 - applications closed) and the Autumn Plenary Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia (25-28 October 2012). IETM meetings do not operate like performing arts markets. Their aim is to bring performing arts professionals together to exchange ideas and to build networks and relationships.

Other markets

There are many international performing arts markets staged throughout the year. Market Development will respond to travel requests for other key international performing arts markets where applicants have an existing relationship to the market. Travel support for these market events is available on a case-by-case basis, tied to the assessment criteria and available resources. Application deadlines are as above.

You may submit travel requests for other key international performing arts markets to any of the deadline dates above. We encourage you to submit your application well in advance so that you can make alternate arrangements should your application not be successful.

Please note that companies and artists who have secured showcase opportunities should contact Market Development staff to discuss possible funding opportunities. Note that funding for showcasing is to a maximum of A$10,000.
