Projects - Inter-Arts

Closing date: 1 December 2010
Decisions advised: March 2011
Projects may start: 1 April 2011

Inter-Arts Project grants support artists investigating emerging artistic practice through interdisciplinary and hybrid arts.

The main focus for this category is to support:

  • research and development
  • creative development
  • production.
Your application can include one or more of these activities, and you may also apply for the presentation of new work.

We welcome applications from artists exploring participatory experiences and innovation such as:
  • live performance and/or inter-activity in networked environments
  • creative agency for audiences,  thus blurring the lines between ‘creator’ and ‘viewer’
  • innovative processes for artistic collaborations that involve new partners and resources
  • mixed or augmented realities that enhance public space and  facilitate the interaction between diverse communities.
Project proposals within these areas of interest must be framed in relation to interdisciplinary and hybrid art practice.

Your project can span more than 12 months.  Your proposal will be more competitive if you seek additional funding from other sources.

All applicants are encouraged to contact Inter-Arts staff to discuss proposals before applying.

Inter-Arts Projects grants are open to individuals, groups and organisations. To be eligible, you must meet the general eligibility requirements.

Selection criteria

Applications must demonstrate:
  • artistic merit of the proposed activity for interdisciplinary and hybrid arts
  • effective hybrid or interdisciplinary approach to the creative process or outcome
  • calibre of the artists and other professionals on the project team
  • evidence that the proposal is well planned, viable and has appropriate support from project partners and/or other sources.

Confirmation letters
- to demonstrate the planning and viability of your proposal you must submit appropriate documents (.pdf). This includes letters:

  • confirming the names and availability from any other artists involved.
  • confirming relevant organisations or institutions in Australia or overseas relating to the project.
  • confirming venues or sites for projects involving the public presentation of a work.
  • for residency projects, you must provide a letter from the residency host confirming arrangements, timing and available facilities.

  • for applications for projects containing representations of artistic/cultural practice or intended outcomes relating to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artists or communities, you must provide letters from relevant communities or artists. In line with the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts policy and its underpinning principles, you must show clear evidence of support and agreement for the activities undertaken. In preparing your application, you may wish to consult the Indigenous protocol guides in song, performance, writing, media arts and visual arts.

Support letters (optional) – you may also provide support letters from peers in the field, organisations, communities or other people relevant to the project. You can submit up to three different support letters, each up to one A4 page (.pdf). These letters can include comments supporting the application or can more fully describe resources being provided by a third party. For example, a mentor proposed in an application might provide a description of what they can offer and how they see a mentor relationship working.
