First time applicants

Applying for the first time? Daunted by the task? Don’t be. First time applicants have a very good chance of getting a grant if they prepare a solid application. All you need is a great idea and to tell us about it.

To help you write about your idea, here's some food for thought ...

One of the first steps we recommend you take is to listen to other artists talk about their experience in writing a grant application. We have several videos of successful applicants talking about their work, with great tips on how to put together a good application. View videos here.

We also recommend you look at our website to see what opportunities are available in all areas of council that might fit your idea. Links to the artform boards and sections can be found here and links to the grants they offer can be found here

By reading some of the stories on the work each area funds, you will get a good idea of where your project fits.

Once you know what kind of grant you want to apply for, there is a great step-by-step guide that tells you everything you need to know about putting in an application. The guide can be found here.

And don’t forget, we are only one, toll-free phone call away. Just dial 1800 226 912 and have a chat to any of us. We will point you in the right direction or give you specific advice on how to put in the best application possible.

In fact, calling us is probably the best thing you can do once you have a sense of where you want to go. Don’t hesitate – helping you is our job.

Good luck with your application!
