Online grant applications
You can apply for most Australia Council grants online.
Generally grant rounds will open six weeks before the advertised closing date. When a grant round is open it will appear in the online system. If you’ve logged into the online grant system and can’t see the grant you want:
- check the grant information on the Australia Council website to see if the grant has opened for applications
- check the grant information to see if that grant category only accepts hard copy applications and is unavailable. If so, the applications will be there for you to download.
You have until midnight (AEST) on the advertised closing date to complete and submit your online application.
We strongly recommend applying well in advance to avoid technical or other difficulties that may occur. Technical assistance is available during business hours (AEST) at OperationServicedesk@australiacouncil.gov.au
Getting a user identification number
The first time you log into the system you will be given a user identification number. This number means you can revisit your application as many times as you want before you submit it.
If you’re applying for a grant as an individual, register as yourself. If you’re applying for a grant as a group or organisation register on behalf of the organisation or the group of artists.
Your user identification number will be emailed to you. Keep it and the password you choose somewhere safe so that you can login to the site next time. Your user number will also allow you to keep track of any previous applications you’ve lodged.
Completing your application
Once you’ve logged into the system and chosen the grant you want to apply for, follow the prompts to work your way through the application. It is important to read all the information on each page. You can save your application at any time and return to it later. You may have to complete up to 10 pages to apply and include a variety of information such as your personal details, an outline of your project, details on other participants, financial information, statistical data and support material.

Once you’ve submitted your application you will receive an auto-generated confirmation email with an application number. You should keep this email– it is your proof that your application was received on the date you sent it.If you want to withdraw your application after you’ve submitted it, notify the relevant section of the Australia Council by letter or email. You cannot withdraw your grant application via the online system.
