Australia Council congratulates 2007 ARIA winners

The Australia Council congratulates Sarah Blasko, John Butler Trio, Josh Pyke, Michael Nock, Richard Tognetti and Zulya Kamalova, who received 2007 ARIA awards.

Sarah Blasko, an Australia Council International Pathways grant recipient in 2005, won the ARIA for best pop release for the album What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have.

The John Butler Trio, which also received International Pathways funding, picked up two awards - best independent release and best blues and roots album - for Grand National.

Australia Council music board project fellowship and Buzz youth grant recipient, Josh Pyke, received an ARIA in the best adult contemporary category for his debut album Memories and Dust. Josh also shared in the artisan award for producer of the year.

In the fine arts category, music board fellowship recipient Mike Nock won the ARIA for best jazz album for Duologue, along with Dave Liebman. The ARIA for best classical album was awarded to Richard Tognetti, artistic director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

The best world music album was awarded to International Pathways and new work recipient Zulya Kamalova for 3 Nights.
