Fiona Maxwell is Manager of the Queensland office of Artsupport Australia.

Fiona joined Artsupport Australia in 2010 after a highly successful career as Executive Director of Melbourne’s Next Wave Festival.

She was introduced to Artsupport Australia as a mentee, gaining the skills and confidence to develop a donor program that saw private giving to the Next Wave Festival increase by 10 per cent in the first 18-months of the program. In 2006 she was awarded an inaugural AbaF Margaret Lawrence Bequest scholarships and a Non-profit Australia Mentorship.

Fiona has been on the boards of The Arts Industry Council (Victoria), Geelong Courthouse Youth Arts Centre, Artabase.net and was Chair of the City of Melbourne Docklands Cultural Committee. She was founding Chair of Theatre Network Victoria and is currently on the steering committee of the Australian Theatre Forum to be held in Brisbane in September 2011.

Earlier in her career, Fiona worked in marketing and administration at Monash University's Museum of Art, The Biennale of Sydney, The J Paul Getty Museum and the Asia Pacific Triennial.

Fiona grew up in far north Queensland and studied Visual Art at Queensland University of Technology. She later received a Masters in Arts Administration from the College of Fine Art at the University of New South Wales.

She says she is thrilled to return to Queensland at an exciting time in the state’s cultural development and believes her arts background provides unique insights into the needs of the organisations she now mentors.

'Coming from the coal face, I’ve seen directly how philanthropy can make a difference to the practice of artists and the organisations which support them,' she says.
