James Boyd
James Boyd is the Manager of Artsupport Australia's Western Australian office.
With significant experience in company, venue, festival and events management, as well as sponsorship, philanthropy, cultural planning and community development, James Boyd was the ideal candidate for the position of Artsupport Australia's Manager, Western Australian.
Prior to joining Artsupport Australia, he was Executive Manager of Development for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) where he managed one of the country’s largest corporate arts sponsorship and philanthropy programs from 2003 to 2008. Over the course of his appointment, the WASO raised $15 million from a combination of philanthropic and corporate sources. So successful was the program that it won 12 industry awards, including the 2008 AbaF National Corporate Partnership of the Year and the 2008 AbaF National Giving Award.
Since joining Artsupport Australia in 2009, James has helped to facilitate over $2.5million of philanthropic support to WA’s arts community.
James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management and completed the post-graduate Executive Program for Non-profit Leaders in the Arts at Stanford University in California in 2007. He frequently speaks on the topics of fund-raising in the arts and community cultural development and is championing the development of ‘giving circles’ in Australia.
On why he enjoys working in the philanthropic sector, James says: ‘The scope of our work is extraordinary. From major performing arts companies to the most remote Aboriginal community welfare centres. And the opportunity to match great need to personal compassion and interest is something special to witness. I just wish I was the one with the dollars...I'd be flinging it everywhere!’
