FAQs for the Australia Council Leadership Program

Am I more suited for the Arts Leaders Program (ALP) or the Future Leaders Program (FLP)?

This is largely self assessed; please note that the ALP is for established and mid-career leaders and the FLP is for emerging leaders.

I am an alumnus of the Emerging Leaders Development Program or the Sync Leadership programs, can I apply?

ELDP alumni are welcomed to submit an application for the Arts Leaders Program but will not be eligible for the Future Leaders Program. Sync Alumni can apply for both.

How do I complete the online Expression of Interest form?

Click on the Express your Interest now button at the bottom of the Arts Leaders Program or Future Leaders Program web pages. You may need to register if this is your first application to the Australia Council. The application can be found under the Grants and Grant Reports Section, under Expressions of Interest (EOI). For amount requested enter $0 and for the 100-character description, enter 'Participation in the Australia Council Leadership Program'.

I don’t have any cameras or editing software, how can I make videos?

Recording your video on a smartphone or webcam is fine. We do not expect high production values – just make sure we can see your face at some point and the audio is clear. These videos are designed to see how you talk about yourself and your engagement with the cultural sector in a more natural manner than a written response.

Can I attach my files instead?

No. Our assessors need to access all support material online. If you wish to make your content private, ensure you add any passwords in the description.

Can I submit letters of support with my Expression of Interest?

No, support letters are not required.

What countries are eligible to apply?

Arts leaders from the following countries can apply to participate in either the Arts Leaders or Future Leaders Program: China, India, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines and Samoa.

Scholarships are available through the Australia Council International Leadership Program (Asia Pacific). The program is delivered with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

What level of English proficiency is required to participate in the program?

Participants will be required to participate fully in discussions, workshops and presentations. All activity will be in English and no translation will be available. An equivalent of at least a level 7 of IELTS is recommended. Participants will not be required to complete an IELTS certification to submit an application. You can self-assess your level of English using the information found here https://www.ielts.org/about-the-test/how-ielts-is-scored.
