The new guests join the 14 international publishers, editors, agents, and scouts announced in early March, who’ll be participating in the 2017 Visiting International Publishers (VIPs) Program in May.

The 2017 VIPs represent a broad range of territories, countries, genres and formats; boutique and multinational publishers; those who are authors themselves (in children’s and non-fiction writing); thoroughly experienced senior editors (in English-language and translation markets); representatives of both emerging and established markets; and those with a particular focus on diversity and First Nations writing. Countries represented include China, Finland, Germany, India, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The selection of this year’s participants was made by the VIPs Committee, in collaboration with Australia Council staff.

Due to the high demand for meetings, registration is open to Australian publishers or literary agents who publish or represent literary titles, in the areas of fiction, narrative non-fiction, poetry or children’s books (i.e. creative writing). Publishers primarily involved in educational or reference books and/or other non-literary titles, self-publishers, printers, and distributors, are requested not to register for the 1:1 business meetings, and attend the industry forum sessions and networking functions instead.

Registration have closed on Thursday 13 April 2017.

About the program

The Visiting International Publishers (VIPs) Program supports international publishers, scouts and literary agents to participate in an intensive week-long schedule of business meetings, networking events, industry forums, writers’ festival events, and panel discussions with Australian publishers and agents. It provides the visiting delegation with the opportunity to immerse themselves in Australia’s unique literary culture, share insights into global publishing trends, strengthen relationships with their Australian counterparts, and expand opportunities for Australian authors overseas through sales of Australian titles into international markets. The program will be held in conjunction with the Sydney Writers’ Festival from 22-28 May 2017.
