Community partnerships - June 2008 meeting

This report summarises the decisions made at the meeting of the community partnerships committee held on 5-6 June 2008, to assess applications made to round 1 of the projects and professional development (category B) and projects with public outcomes (category C).  This round accepted applications from 1 February to 3 March..

Committee feedback

The community partnerships committee noted the high quality applications and the competitiveness of the round.

General feedback around the projects and professional development (category B) grants included making explicit the developmental outcomes for communities; that is, making clear the sustainable benefits for communities as an outcome of the process of the project. The committee noted a small number of examples where the project was one of community arts practice, rather than community development through art practice and noted that the latter is more aligned with the brief of the community partnerships committee.

The committee also commented on how applicants should aim to have the participant community(ies)  directly represented on project committees. It was discussed that If the project seeks to meaningfully engage with community(ies) they should be present on committees so consultation and input at a strategic level takes place, as well as input and consultation at the implementation stage.

Two professional development applications were received to this category in this round. The committee noted the high quality of both of these applications.  The committee noted that professional development applications should clearly state the benefit to the community after the period of development has occurred, how this is to delivered ad/or facilitated, and the importance of partnerships in the professional development context.

General feedback for projects with public outcomes (category C) grants included making explicit the developmental outcomes for communities and ensuring that these address the Community Partnerships priority areas. The issues of committee representation for projects, and the differentiation between community art practice and community cultural development through art practice was again raised.
