Inter-arts - artist initiated residencies - June 2008
This report summarises the outcomes of the meeting of the Australia Council's inter-arts assessment panel held on 27 June 2008.
Director's report
I'd like to thank the inter-arts assessment panel for assessing the artist initiated residencies applications received to the 1 May 2008 closing date. The panel noted the high standard of applications received and the diverse list of residency hosts proposed by applicants.
As usual it was difficult to select the final list of recipients from such a strong pool of applications. Residency partners proposed and funded in this round include the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), the Centre for Medical Simulation in Massachusetts General Hospital (USA), the University of Applied Sciences in Dûsselldorf (Germany) and a virtual world through the Australian company VastPark.
The panel commented that the successful applicants to this round developed strong residency partnerships and made a compelling case that the residency would benefit their professional development and artistic practice. In addition, their support material demonstrated both the quality of their previous work and their capacity to undertake the project proposed during their residency.
To assist in the assessment of future inter-arts applications, the panel strongly encourages individuals with expertise in the area of interdisciplinary arts to join the council’s register of peers. This register is used to select people to sit on panels and ensure the inter-arts office assessment meetings draw upon as diverse a pool of interdisciplinary arts practitioners as possible.
On behalf of the Australia Council and the panel, I would like to thank the artists who submitted an application. Our next closing date is for inter-arts projects on 1 December 2008. Please contact staff to discuss your proposal if you intend submitting an application to this round.
