Inter-arts - March 2008
This report summarises the outcomes of the meeting of the Australia Council's inter-arts assessment panel held on 2 May 2008.
Director's report
I'd like to thank the inter-arts assessment panel for their time and commitment in assessing the new work initiative proposals received to the 31 March 2008 closing date. There was an exciting range of projects proposed from around Australia and as usual it was very difficult to make decisions from such a strong pool of applications. The panel was encouraged that the majority of applicants sought significant co-funding - not only from government grants, but also from community partners and sponsors. There were also a healthy number of new collaborative partnerships formed between artists who had not previously applied as a team.
One issue of concern to the panel however, was that artists were requesting less for personal artist fees than in previous rounds. To make a project viable, the panel recommends applicants pay professional artist fees based on the level of experience of each artist and the scope of the project.
To assist in the assessment of future inter-arts applications, the panel strongly encourages individuals to register on register of peers. This register is used to select people to sit on panels and ensure the inter-arts office assessment meetings draw upon as diverse a pool of interdisciplinary arts practitioners as possible.
On behalf of the Australia Council and the panel, I would like to thank the artists and organisations who submitted an application. Our next closing round for inter-arts projects is 1 December 2008. Please contact staff to discuss your proposal if you intend submitting an application to this round.
