Australia's Indigenous arts are the focus of a great surge of international interest in Australia's arts and culture. It is no exaggeration to say that our Indigenous arts are Australia's most significant cultural asset. Both ancient and modern, they are a profound and powerful force in the Australian cultural landscape.

The term 'Indigenous', like 'Aboriginal', is not at all adequate to describe the regional, linguistic and cultural diversity of Aboriginal people across a huge continent. However, we hope this publication encourages you to engage with a complex culture.
