Young Australians reading: from keen to reluctant readers

Young Australians reading

A national research report on the reading experience of 10-18 year olds.

It is generally accepted in our society that reading is an important skill to develop in our children.  With the recent developments in information technology, questions are now being asked about the impact of technologies such as the Internet on the reading patterns of Australian children and adolescents.

The research intended to gain an understanding of the reading habits and experiences of 10-18 year olds.  The research also intended to identify the factors that drive this behaviour - including the underlying needs or desired states which cause young people to behave in a certain way or change their behaviour as they age - and to identify the attitudes, motivational triggers or influences which help shape their reading behaviour.

Prepared for the Australian Centre for Youth Literature and the Audience and Market Development Division of the Australia Council by Woolcott Research Pty Ltd.
