Similarity and difference: craftspeople and visual artists in Australia

Explores and describes the similarities and differences between craftspeople and visual artists in Australia.

This report is based on research using data drawn principally from the 1993 survey of Australian artists, the main report of which was published as But what do you do for a living? A new economic study of Australian artists by David Throsby and Beverley Thompson (Sydney, Australia Council, 1994).  It also uses some data from the unpublished survey of successful and unsuccessful applicants from Australia Council grants, carried out in 1995 by Jane Spring and David Throsby.
