Some Australian arts statistics

Draws on information from several major Australian Bureau of Statistics collections.

The report Includes data from the 1999-2000 Service Industry Surveys and Attendance at Selected Cultural Venues, 1999 (Catalogue no. 4114.0).

It also contains data from a variety of other Australian Bureau of Statistics collections, including Work in Selected Culture and Leisure Activities, 1997 (Catalogue no. 6281.0) and Children's Participation in Cultural Activities, April 2000 (Catalogue no. 4901.0).

As this collection demonstrates, the range of cultural statistics available in Australia has improved substantially in recent years. The Australia Council's work to improve arts statistics, both as part of the Cultural Ministers Council Statistics Working Group and independently, has been widely recognised and more quality work is to be done.
