Arts in a digital era

The Australia Council has a strategic priority to build arts content for the digital era.

We know that audiences are seeking creative experiences on a wide variety of digital platforms and are keen to connect with these live immersive worlds. Across the council, we continue to support artists and organisations exploring how Australians can differently experience and interact with the arts.

Arts Digital Era

The Australia Council also explores issues faced  by artists and arts organisations in the digital era through the artsdigitalera blog and @artsdigitalera Twitter account. The discussion involves key areas like new audiences, domains, incomes and support for arts content, and also features initiatives including the Geek in Residence Program, Digital Culture Fund, the recent Transmedia Victoria event and current research into archives in the digital era.

genart_sys |a window on digital culture

This engaging exhibition, organised in the foyer of our Sydney offices in February-March, showcased 19 innovative artists, collectives and organisations supported by the Australia Council from a broad range of artforms.

The exhibition curator Deborah Turnbull, from New Media Curation, developed this exhibition to explore the act of making digital art as an iterative process. The exhibition presented a generative, ever evolving system of art-making, by which artists are innovating and sharing stories and knowledge over space and time, playing and interfacing with audiences across diverse platforms and communities.

Building digital culture, genart_sys artists are connecting with us across real and virtual platforms, leading us into new territory with exciting examples of how technologies and content can converge.

To the future – ISEA2013

We are pleased to congratulate the Australian Network for Art and Technology (ANAT) who have led Australia’s successful bid for the 19th International Symposium on Electronic Art in Sydney 2013. ISEA2013 :: RESISTANCE IS FUTILE will feature leading international artists and thinkers exploring digital culture, science and technology. This event will investigate how digital art, once at the margins of public perception, is now interwoven into the fabric of our everyday lives, in our schools and workplaces, in our games, films, fashion, social media and gadgets.

Funding opportunities for artists and organisations
