The Institute for Provocation (IFP) is an artist-run workspace, think tank and project space that focuses on research practice and critical engagement with process, while cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural interaction provides a unique platform for the facilitation of work by individual artists. The residency program is a core activity of IFP, offering residents an environment that aims to initiate provocations on an artistic and collaborative level.
Residents and collaborators can access IFP's wide network of influencers, makers and researchers in China and beyond. In addition, IFP’s multidisciplinary team are invested in the residents’ projects, offering continuous artistic guidance.
Each resident has the opportunity to show their work at IFP's project space,Black Sesame, at the conclusion of their residency. Since 2014, Black Sesame has presented a wide range of projects by residents and local artists. IFP Sessions also give resident artists the chance to present their work in an informal and discussion-oriented setting.
