Sounds Australia is Australia’s export music market development initiative, providing a strategic platform to assist the Australian music industry access international business opportunities. Sounds Australia is a joint initiative of the Australia Council and APRA|AMCOS, supported by the Federal Government, state government agencies and peak industry associations.
Sounds Australia creates showcasing opportunities at music events around the globe, bringing Australian musicians to the attention of some of world’s most influential bookers, buyers, promoters and tastemakers of the future. The aim is to provide the best environment for Australian artists to shine at international events, offering extensive exposure to industry and fans.
Established in 2009, the program provides the music industry with valuable networking and business matching opportunities by understanding the goals and objectives of the international industry and creating connections with Australian musicians and their managers. Over the past seven years, the program has opened opportunities for Australian musicians at international events including SXSW in Austin, Texas and Womex in Budapest, Hungary.
As a direct result of Sounds Australia’s programs, the number of Australian artists showcasing at international events has grown from 49 per year in 2009 to 263 in 2014, a 437% increase.
