Arabella Edge
Arabella Edge’s first novel, The Company, was based on the shipwreck of the Dutch ship the Batavia in 1629.
It was published to critical acclaim in Australia, Britain, the US, and translated into Dutch, French and German.
It won the Best First Book in the 2001 Commonwealth Writers' Prize in the South East Asia and South Pacific Region, and was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award.
Edge’s second novel, The God of Spring, is set in Paris during the upheavals of the French Revolution, the Empire and the Restoration, and is inspired by the fascinating life and disturbing art of the painter Theodore Gericault.
Rights have been sold in Australia and New Zealand to Pan Macmillan, in Britain to Picador and to Simon and Schuster in the USA. Arabella is currently working on a non-fiction book on shipwrecks for ABC Books.
