Melina Marchetta
Melina Marchetta’s Looking for Alibrandi was published in 1992 and is a story of a third generation Italian-Australian schoolgirl who experiences love, death and the secrets of her family's past.
It was shortlisted for the New South Wales and South Australian State Literature Awards in 1993 and won several children’s book awards. Marchetta was asked to develop a screenplay, and the resultant film, Looking for Alibrandi (1999), also won a number of awards.
Her second novel Saving Francesca (Penguin, 2003) won the Children's Book Council Book of the Year Award, for Older Readers.Her third novel is On the Jellicoe Road (Penguin, 2006).
Looking For Alibrandi and Saving Francesca have been publishedin the USA by Knopf, in Germany by Ravensburger Buchverlag, and in Italy by Arnaldo Mondadori. Looking for Alibrandi has also been published in Poland, Indonesia and Lithuania.
