Since it formed in 1999, The Torch Project has gained a reputation for facilitating diverse community-based arts projects throughout Victoria and North East Arnhem Land.

The main work of The Torch Project is facilitating Re-Igniting Community (RIC) projects: a whole of community arts-based approach to dealing with issues affecting Australian communities.

Using the framework of RIC, identified issues are addressed in an on-going and inclusive process using community consultation, workshops, activity in schools, theatrical and artistic expression, and ongoing activities driven by the local communities and involving hundreds of volunteers. Cultural diversity is celebrated, and community members collaborate to create a representation of their unique community culture.

Torch Projects have been supported by more than 200 Indigenous, government bodies, religious institutions, education departments, business and community organisations.

The work of The Torch Project is widely recognised by the arts, community and health sectors as being an effective tool to promote community wellbeing through the arts.
