Woomera Aborignal Corporation based in Mornington Island, a remote Aboriginal community in far north west Queensland. The corporation helps Aborignal people reach their goals, with four key areas, the Mornington Island Dancers; Mornington Island Arts and Craft, Cultural Pathways Program; and the Mornington Island Archive.

Mornington Island is the largest of the Wellesley Islands – a group of 23 islands in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The main township of Gununa, with a population of approximately 1200, is located in the South West corner of Mornington Island. Woomera Aboriginal Corporation was founded here in 1973 and incorporated in 1983.  The name ‘woomera’ refers to the ‘spear-thrower’ a tool that increases a hunter’s ability to take aim and reach targets. Similarly, Woomera aims to increase the ability of its members, staff and the Mornington Island community to reach their goals.

Woomera Aboriginal Corporation is a key organisation of the Australia Council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts board.
