Market development
The Australia Council has a dedicated market development section that builds the capacity of the arts sector in audience and market development, arts marketing skills and international marketing and promotion. It is part of the organisation’s arts development division.
The market development section aims to create and facilitate demand for Australian art, promote opportunities for Australian artists and ensure more people in more places can access great Australian art.
Three directions will provide a map for the Australia Council's market development activities over the next three years:
Cultivating consumers
The Australia Council helps Australian artists and organisations improve their understanding of audiences, better meet consumer expectations and encourage participation in the arts.
Market matters
Presenters and independent producers are vital to connecting art with audiences. Both of these roles are essential in supporting artists to find new national and international markets for their work, maximising the exposure of the work and enabling greater artistic and financial returns.
Internationalism
The Australia Council's international work has resulted in a strong global interest in, and demand for, Australian contemporary artists and their work.
