Carin Mistry appointed Director of Dance

Carin Mistry has been appointed as the Australia Council’s Director Dance. As director of Dance, Carin will provide leadership to the Dance section and together with the new Chair of the Dance Board, Chrissy Sharp, will lead in the implementation of the Australia Council’s dance sector plan for 2009 – 2012.  The Australia Council dance sector plan has a close alignment to the Dance Plan 2012. The Dance Plan 2012 was developed with Ausdance National after wide consultation and presents a vision by and for the whole of the dance sector.

Carin, who has worked at the Australia Council since 1997, is well known and respected in the Australia’s dance sector. She has acted in the Director role since mid 2008 and has made a considerable contribution to the dance sector in this time.
Carin studied English Literature and Philosophy at Exeter University and Arts Management/Policy at City University. She began her career as a producer in Theatre, and before moving to Australia worked in Film and TV. She has acted as an arts funding peer adviser in the UK and for three years was the specialist youth arts adviser to the National Australia Day Council. Carin is a fellow of the 2009 Asialink Leaders Program.

She has taken on various roles in the Australia Council in Theatre, Youth Arts and most recently of course, Dance. Carin is delighted that she will be continuing to work with artists, companies, institutions and producers to ensure that Australian dance can thrive.
