About the Albers Foundation
The Albers Foundation continues the legacy of Josef Albers (1888-1976) a renowned painter, printmaker, color theorist, writer and teacher who, throughout his career, taught at the Bauhaus, Black Mountain College and Yale University. His wife, Anni Albers (1899-1994) was a pioneering weaver, printmaker and writer, who is often cited as the foremost textile designer of the 20th Century. Both Josef and Anni relished the chance to engage in their own work at a remove from distractions and in well organized and comfortable setting, an experience the Albers Foundation has aimed to replicate through its artist residency program.
The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation maintains two residential studios for select visiting artists who exemplify the seriousness of purpose that characterized both Anni and Josef Albers. The Albers Foundation property is a 75-acre heavily wooded rural site.
