A range of projects from around Australia have been funded in the last Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander grant round.

 

WESTERN AUSTRALIA:

Ausdance WA proposes to focus its activity on Indigenous dance presenting a professional performance program of traditional and contemporary works and providing professional development opportunities for Indigenous artists and groups.

Proposal to host the Honour Theatre Festival in Perth 1st – 12th July 2008.  This conference is a tri-nations initiative to present the work of three leading Indigenous theatre companies from Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

To tour the band throughout Western Australia.

 

QUEENSLAND:

The team plans to promote the local Thayorre & Mungkan cultures with free strategic public performances in Tokyo and Kyoto, the team plans to deliver 12 performances in and around public spaces and a week long cultural exchange.

Whichway is a project of MusicNSW to assist in the development of the Indigenous Music Industry, this project aims to increase the profile of musicians, career opportunities and professionalism etc by facilitating a 4 day workshop/seminars.

Redfern Community Centre & PACT Youth Theatre will facilitate a creative development process involving Indigenous youth participating in a series of creative theatre development workshops.

A project that supports the skills development of emerging Indigenous artists and project co-ordinators so they can provide peer leadership and mentoring of young Anangu people which will be channelled through the organisation. The skills that will be developed range between understanding financial matters, budgets to how to present themselves within the arts industry.

An exploration of notions of imagery that translates ideas of genealogy and cognition and the creation of a new body of work.

Department of Natural Resources Environment and the Arts: ($29 600)

To research and develop a catalogue for the 25th anniversary of the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award 2008.

 

 

VICTORIA:

To showcase several Indigenous arts projects in the 2008 Next Wave Festival program.  This is primarily to expose and raise awareness of emerging young Indigenous artists.  

Courthouse Youth Arts: ($20 000)

To redevelop and restage the theatrical performance project of “A Daughter’s Dream’ in Oct 2008, which has developed from the novel  ‘URGENT” published in 2003.
