Bianca Looney - MMM

Melbourne artist Bianca Looney received an Australia Council Maker to Manufacturer to Market (MMM) grant in 2006 to explore manufacturing and distribution options both locally and internationally for her Z-Series tiling systems.

The Z-series refers to three innovative tiling systems: Terrain, Slipmap and Flatlanders. Since first being exhibited in Melbourne in 2003 the tiles have been showcased internationally in Tokyo, Seoul, Den Bosch and Milan. Z-series is currently touring nationally as part of Freestyle: New Australian Design for Living.

Bianca develops work that employs the 'landscape' as an element of inspiration, symbol and metaphor. Her work includes sculpture, ceramics, textiles, graphic and product design and urban design interventions.

Z-series employs the Australian landscape as an elemental source of inspiration, symbol and metaphor. The tiles can be used as an external or internal cladding material to new or existing walls.

Bianca is currently developing the Z-series range to a market ready stage with collaborative partners in Europe and Australia. In 2006/7 it was part of Freestyle: New Australian design for living, a significant national and internationally touring exhibition initiated by Object: Australian Centre for Craft and Design.
