Festival of Pacific Arts

Design by Jacob Nash

Australia to share and showcase the best of Indigenous arts in American Samoa at the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts.

The Australia Council will be sending 42 of Australia's best Indigenous artists to represent their cultures and share their arts with 27 other Pacific nations from July 20- August 2, 2008.

Australia's delegation is being led by artistic director Wesley Enoch.

Welcoming the New Day is our response to the Festival theme of Threading the Ula of the Pacific (a reference to the tradition of welcoming travellers and hospitality).

Welcoming the New Day talks to a sense of hope and optimism we feel about changes in our country and region.

Artists lead the way in imagining a vocabulary for the future.

In Australia we welcome developments in cultural expression and embrace the diversity of our cultural heritage. It is hoped the festival will act as a meeting place to enable exchange and cultural dialogue between artists of the Pacific which will last beyond two weeks in America Samoa."
