Navigating the stormy seas of Presenting Partners
The final workshops in a series exploring artists’ relationships with presenting partners will be held by Auspicious Arts in Melbourne on 6 August and B Sharp in Sydney on 30 September 2009.
The purpose of these Navigating and Negotiating Connections workshops is to map the presentation opportunities for project-based theatre makers, help them network, and offer negotiating skills training. Prominent national presenters are invited to each workshop to share their expertise and experience with the participants.
Over the past 12 months, workshops were held by Metro Arts in Brisbane, The Blue Room in Perth, Vitalstatistix in Adelaide, and two previous sessions in Melbourne and Sydney.
Participants learnt the importance of long term relationships with potential presenting partners; gaining an overview of venues, festivals and other entities that might act as presenters and what they look for in their programming; and developing mutually beneficial partnerships with a presenter and how this can maximise presentation opportunities for a show.
Feedback from participants reflected on the usefulness of discussing how best to make industry connections as well as the opportunity of connecting with the presenters and participants at the workshop itself.
With only two workshops to go and limited regional travel funds available, why not negotiate your way to a workshop?
